Professional subcontract opportunities across South Manchester and Cheshire

Sale Fencing & Surfacing Ltd is building a trusted network of experienced independent subcontractors and established installation teams.

We are looking for reliable businesses that can take responsibility for clearly defined paving, fencing, driveway, groundwork and landscaping projects across Sale, Altrincham, Trafford, South Manchester and parts of Cheshire.

Approved SFS Installation Partners may receive priority consideration for suitable projects, advance notice of forthcoming work, clearly agreed prices and potential repeat opportunities throughout the year.

Projects are offered individually. There is no guaranteed amount of work, and subcontractors remain free to accept or decline each opportunity and continue working for other customers and contractors.

Who We Are Looking For

We are interested in hearing from experienced independent contractors, sole traders, partnerships, limited companies and established subcontract teams.

You may specialise in one particular area or be capable of delivering complete landscaping and installation packages.

We are currently looking for businesses experienced in:

  • porcelain patio installation;

  • natural-stone paving;

  • block paving;

  • driveway preparation and installation;

  • fencing and gate installation;

  • groundworks and excavation;

  • drainage and site preparation;

  • patio and driveway repairs;

  • smaller landscaping projects;

  • remedial and maintenance work.

We are particularly interested in experienced teams operating around Sale, Altrincham, Hale, Bowdon, Timperley, Urmston, Didsbury, Cheadle, Wilmslow and surrounding areas.

How the SFS Installation Partner Scheme Works

The SFS Installation Partners Network is designed to create professional, long-term relationships with reliable independent contractors.

Rather than offering casual labour or open-ended day-rate work, we provide clearly defined work packages.

Before each project starts, we will agree:

  • the full scope of work;

  • the required specification;

  • the site address;

  • the programme and expected completion date;

  • who supplies each material;

  • the fixed price or measured rates;

  • payment stages;

  • variation procedures;

  • workmanship responsibilities;

  • completion and handover requirements.

A project only becomes confirmed when both parties have accepted the written work order.

No Day-Rate Work

SFS does not offer day-rate subcontract work.

Projects will normally be priced using:

  • fixed-price installation packages;

  • agreed rates per square metre;

  • agreed rates per linear metre;

  • rates per fence bay, post or gate;

  • rates for defined groundwork or drainage elements;

  • prices for complete repair packages.

This creates a clearer commercial arrangement for both parties.

It also rewards well-organised and efficient installation teams that can complete work to the agreed standard and programme.

Rates will vary depending on:

  • the type of work;

  • site access;

  • excavation and preparation requirements;

  • materials responsibility;

  • labour and supervision provided;

  • transport and plant requirements;

  • complexity and risk;

  • completion and guarantee obligations.

All prices must be agreed before the work begins.

What SFS Installation Partners May Receive

Approved Installation Partners may receive:

  • priority consideration for suitable projects;

  • advance notice of likely work where possible;

  • clearly written scopes and specifications;

  • access to measured-rate or fixed-price packages;

  • reliable agreed payment terms;

  • potential repeat opportunities throughout the year;

  • smaller repair work between larger installations;

  • customer enquiries and sales administration handled by SFS;

  • one named management contact for decisions;

  • authorised variations confirmed in writing.

We want to work with dependable businesses that value clear information, professional organisation and prompt communication.

Planned Availability and Regular Opportunities

We understand that established subcontractors need to plan their workload.

Approved Installation Partners may provide provisional availability for selected weeks or project windows throughout the year.

For example, a partner may tell us that they expect to have:

  • one week available every six weeks;

  • selected weeks available during quieter periods;

  • regular fencing capacity each month;

  • paving availability during spring and summer;

  • repair capacity between larger projects.

These dates are used for planning only.

They are not guaranteed bookings, and neither party is obliged to offer or accept work.

Where customer projects are confirmed and the work is suitable, approved partners may receive first consideration.

Our Requirements

Applicants should normally have:

  • relevant industry experience;

  • examples of completed projects;

  • suitable tools and equipment;

  • their own transport;

  • current public liability insurance;

  • CIS registration;

  • a valid Unique Taxpayer Reference;

  • competent labour and suitable supervision;

  • appropriate health and safety arrangements;

  • a professional approach to customers;

  • reliable communication;

  • references, customer reviews or trade contacts.

Where machinery, specialist equipment or regulated work is involved, appropriate competence, training or certification may also be required.

Workmanship Must Be Guaranteed

Every SFS Installation Partner must stand behind their work.

Subcontractors are responsible for completing each accepted package:

  • to the written specification;

  • using suitable materials and methods;

  • in accordance with manufacturer guidance;

  • to reasonable professional trade standards;

  • within the agreed programme.

Where a defect, incomplete item or damage is caused by the subcontractor’s workmanship, labour, supervision or installation, the subcontractor will be expected to return promptly and correct it at their own cost.

The applicable workmanship guarantee period will be stated in the work order or framework subcontract terms.

Payment or customer handover does not automatically remove responsibility for defects that appear later and are shown to result from the subcontractor’s work.

Where a problem is caused by defective materials supplied by another party, customer misuse, unrelated trades or a design issue outside the subcontractor’s responsibility, this will be reviewed separately and fairly.

Failure to honour valid workmanship obligations may lead to:

  • suspension from future projects;

  • removal from the Installation Partners Network;

  • recovery of reasonable remedial costs where permitted under the subcontract terms.

  •

Customer and Site Standards

Our reputation has been built over many years, so customer care is essential.

Installation Partners must:

  • treat customers and neighbours politely;

  • protect homes, gardens and surrounding property;

  • keep the work area safe and reasonably tidy;

  • communicate delays or access issues promptly;

  • avoid unnecessary disruption;

  • use suitable dust, noise and waste controls;

  • store materials safely;

  • follow agreed working hours;

  • leave the site secure at the end of each day;

  • report unforeseen conditions immediately;

  • not agree extra work directly with the customer without approval.

Any requested variations must be referred to Richard or Gary and agreed in writing before additional work is undertaken.

Health and Safety

Every subcontractor must be able to demonstrate that they have the skills, knowledge, experience and organisational capability required for the work they accept.

Depending on the project, we may require:

  • risk assessments;

  • method statements;

  • public liability insurance;

  • plant or machinery certificates;

  • evidence of training;

  • personal protective equipment;

  • accident and incident reporting;

  • waste carrier details;

  • competent supervision.

Subcontractors are responsible for the safety and conduct of their own workforce.

All parties must cooperate to protect customers, workers, neighbours and members of the public.

Materials, Waste and Site Responsibility

Each work order will state who is responsible for supplying materials.

Where Sale Fencing & Surfacing supplies materials, the Installation Partner must:

  • check quantities and condition;

  • report shortages promptly;

  • store materials safely;

  • avoid unnecessary waste;

  • use materials only for the specified project;

  • protect products from damage;

  • return surplus materials where instructed.

Where the subcontractor supplies materials, they must be suitable for the agreed specification and approved before installation where required.

Waste and spoil responsibilities will also be agreed before work begins.

No unauthorised waste should be returned to the SFS yard.

Payment and Invoicing

Payment arrangements will be confirmed in each work order.

Depending on the project, this may include:

  • payment following approved completion;

  • milestone payments;

  • measured progress payments;

  • staged payments for larger projects;

  • retention where specifically agreed.

Invoices must include:

  • the subcontractor’s business details;

  • invoice number and date;

  • relevant work-order reference;

  • site address;

  • description of completed work;

  • agreed amount;

  • VAT where applicable.

Variations will only be paid where they have been approved in writing.

Sale Fencing & Surfacing operates the Construction Industry Scheme where applicable.

Subcontractors will be verified with HMRC, and any required CIS deductions will be applied at the rate provided by HMRC.

Independent Contractor Status

The SFS Installation Partners Network is intended for genuine independent businesses.

There is:

  • no guaranteed minimum amount of work;

  • no obligation to accept a project;

  • no guaranteed weekly payment;

  • no holiday pay;

  • no sick pay;

  • no pension entitlement;

  • no employee benefits;

  • no restriction on working for other customers.

Subcontractors remain responsible for:

  • their own tax affairs;

  • insurance;

  • business costs;

  • vehicles and equipment;

  • labour;

  • invoices;

  • VAT where applicable;

  • the organisation and delivery of accepted work packages.

Each project is a separate commercial engagement.
